Macon ‘Justice for Trayvon’ Rally Part of Nationwide Movement

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One week after a jury found George Zimmerman not guilty in the death of Trayvon Martin, people in cities across the nation rallied together for a change. On Saturday, Macon participated in the nationwide campaign.

“I don’t feel like Trayvon was done justice,” said Betty Saxby, “we need to take a good look at our justice system. The word justice has been distorted and misused.”

The Macon vigil is one of over 100 “Justice for Trayvon” vigils. The campaign push was planned by Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network. Joshua Taldit battled the July sun in Macon wearing a hoodie in honor of Trayvon Martin.

“I’m trying to fight for him so we can have a better judicial system,” Martin said.

Marilyn Johnson, a mother and grandmother, said she was devastated by the verdict.

“It just hurt me all over, because I have children and I just don’t want to see them being mistreated like this,” she said.

This was the third Trayvon Martin event in Macon in the past month. Demonstrators say they will not stop demanding justice, until they see a change. An NAACP petition is calling for the Justice Department to file federal civil rights charges against Zimmerman.
