Dismissal Sought for Ga. Ex-Principal’s Charges

ATHENS, Ga.  – Federal court documents show prosecutors want
to drop embezzlement charges against former Winterville Elementary
School Principal Yvonne John-Daniels.

John-Daniels resigned as principal of Winterville Elementary
School in December 2005 amid allegations by Clarke County School
District officials that she may have misappropriated up to $155,000
in school funds.

Acting U.S. Attorney G.F. Peterman said in August that
authorities would not seek to extradite John-Daniels from Trinidad
and Tobago, her native country. She returned there while she was
under investigation, and authorities say she has been working at
the University of Trinidad and Tobago.

U.S. Attorney Michael Moore filed a motion in federal court to
dismiss all charges, saying pursuing the case is not a prudent use
of the government’s resources.
