JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Twiggs County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Billy Boney has confirmed the Twiggs County inmate who escaped is now back in police custody.

He was found just more than 20 miles away on some railroad tracks in rural Bleckley County.

Just before noon Tuesday, a woman spotted him on those tracks and called authorities to report a suspicious person.

Katie Yearty, spokesperson for the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office, says deputies arrived and apprehended 45-year-old Troy Havis Criswell at the intersection of Magnolia and Centenary Roads.

They’ve since returned Criswell to the Twiggs County Law Enforcement Center in Jeffersonville, where he escaped early Sunday morning.

Boney says he was told Criswell didn’t resist when deputies took him back into custody.

More than Two Days on the Run

Criswell escaped early Sunday morning from the jail after ripping a shower head out of a wall and crawling through the hole that was left there.  He was in jail facing a number of charges, including possesion of a firearm by a convicted felon, stalking, terroristic threats, criminal trespass, and loitering.

There are sure to be more now after his short-lived escape.

The Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office will hold a news conference about this capture Wednesday morning at 10.  Stay tuned to 41NBC and 41NBC.com for the latest on this story.
