UPDATE: Monroe Co. Sheriff’s Office Suspect Robbery as Motive in Double Homicide
JULIETTE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Monroe County deputies believe robbery could have been the motive behind a double homicide that happened in south Monroe County near Juliette.
According to a news release, 36-year-old Russell Jacobs and 40-year-old James Pittman Wood were found dead in their home at 170 Woods Road Tuesday around 1 p.m. Jacobs was Wood’s brother-in law and lived in the house. Wood’s father, who also lives there, found the two victims.
Spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, Allison Selman-Willis, says the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating several leads and it looks like robbery may have been the motive in the homicides.
Monroe County coroner Joey Proctor says the exact time of death is unknown at this time, but the two were most likely killed sometime Monday night.
The GBI assisted with processing the crime scene. Willis says a medical examiner with the GBI will conduct the autopsy to determine cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 994-7043.
