Candlelight Vigil Held for Macon Girl Killed by School Bus

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –  Hundreds of friends, teachers, and family members of Ta’Miya Watson lit candles in her honor tonight in front of her family home.

The vigil comes just 5 days after the 5-year-old Barden Elementary School student was struck and killed by a Bibb County school bus. Ta’Miya died Monday night at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Her pastors led the crowd in prayer, thanking God for the gift of Ta’Miya and for her 5 short years on Earth. They also led them in singing one of her favorite church songs. The vigil was held just feet away from where she was hit, between her home and Barden Elementary School.

Some of her classmates were there, who have learned all too early what it is to lose a friend.

“She was a nice friend,” said classmate Kevon, “and she used to play with people and she was always nice to people and she’d talk to people so nicely, and she would hold my sister all the time.”

“She came over to my house and played with me all the time,” said a boy named Cameron, who witnessed the accident.

Ta’Miya’s funeral will be held tomorrow at Greater Zion Hill Baptist Church, located at 2656 Napier Ave at 1pm. They will open at noon for Barden elementary students and teachers.
