Commission Candidate Glover Pleads Not Guilty to Drug Charges

GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Candidate for the Macon-Bibb Commission, Danny Glover, pleaded not guilty to marijuana possession in Jones County Probate Court Tuesday morning.

Glover was arrested in January after a Jones County Deputy found him and a friend sleeping in Glover’s car. The incident report says inside the car the deputy found a marijuana grinder, a smoked blunt, and several baggies with residue.

Glover’s lawyer, Jason Downey, spoke with 41NBC after Glover entered the plea. He says based on the facts of the case, the plea was appropriate.

“Danny Glove wants to get back to the business of helping the people of East Macon, that’s the most important thing… He qualified yesterday and he’s back to the business of representing the people of East Macon. He’s never stopped doing that,” said Downey.

Downey says they’ve requested a bench trial which will likely take place over the summer. A bench trial is where the judge is the one who hears the facts of the case, and makes a decision. There is no jury.

While he waits for his trial, Downey says Glover will head back to the campaign trail.

“The next step is Danny Glover runs his campaign… and for people to vote on the merits of Danny as a leader and nothing else,” said Downey.

Glover had to leave qualifying yesterday morning for a family emergency, but he told 41NBC he completed the paper work around 4:30. He is listed on the Macon-Bibb County Board of Elections website as a qualified candidate for the District 3 Commission seat.
