Two More Qualify for Mayor of Macon-Bibb County

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Today, two men who are no stranger to competing for one position qualified within minutes of each other to run for mayor of Macon-Bibb County.

Former Bibb County Chairmen Charles Bishop, and current Chairman Sam Hart served on commission together before Hart beat out Bishop for the chairman’s seat in 2008.

Bishop says the new government needs someone who can handle money, and his record proves he’s got the expertise.

“All my life I’ve been a public servant and I’m here today to offer again to offer my service to the new government. The new government will evolve with a lot of problems, all my life, I’ve been a problem solver,” said Bishop.

Hart believes the community needs continue to be proactive when it comes in looking for economic development.

“I think I’ve approached the think community approach to my leadership and also to how I govern. I think it’s important that in this new government, I think it’s going to be important going forward that we engage folk,” said Hart.

Bishop and Hart will face opposition from Bibb County Commissioner Joe Allen, former Macon Mayor C. Jack Ellis, and Macon Mayor Robert Reichert.
