Sheriff David Davis Marks 100 Days On The Job, “It’s One of Those Pinch Me Moments”

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – 100 days ago today, Bibb County welcomed its newest Sheriff as its leader. David Davis was very familiar with his new position after serving as Chief Deputy under Sheriff Modena, but this was a little bit different for him.

“I think it’s like breaking in a pair of shoes,” Davis said about the new role. “You get in, and you gotta get comfortable in the position.”

But getting comfortable is coming with a lot of work. On top of his sworn duties to serve and protect, Davis is charged with the task of consolidating his office with the Macon Police Department. A job Davis says takes up nearly half of his time.

“It’s truly a dream come true.”

But don’t think Davis hasn’t taken a minute to stop and think about his new role. He still finds himself in awe of the fact that he has reached the highest level of local law enforcement.

“It takes a little time to sort of work yourself into it, and to realize, you know, hey, I am the Sheriff and I have these responsibilities and this authority to do,” Davis said.

As consolidation fills his plate, Davis finds himself spending more time in the office than what he’d like, trying to get a jump start to make sure both departments are on the same page for the January 1st, 2014 transition.

“That’s one of the reasons we wanted to start early and sort of make some of these decisions early,” Davis explained. “So that we acn have several months to implement it.”

Some of those decisions include a new badge design, new decals for the cars, updating Central Records and how it runs, and making sure when Macon P.D. and the Sheriff’s Office merge, all current officers and deputies stay on the force to keep you safe.

“They have a job to do, and basically, they’re going to do it.”

But as Davis looks back, he says the first 100 days have really whizzed by.

And as he realizes where he is sitting,
