FPD Middle Schoolers Spend Day Giving Back to Macon Community

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — 150 seventh and eighth graders from First Presbyterian Day School spent their Wednesday all over the community, making a difference.

It was the middle schools first ever day of service. Those kids hit 15 different sites around town, indoors and outdoors, giving back to their community.

Kristen Filingim was one of the FPD seniors leading the group of younger classman at Pleasant Hill Community Garden. She says FPD’s community service requirement for upper classman really helped her grow into a better person.

“As a leader now leading this group of students it’s just encouraging to me seeing their faces light up when they’re playing with a little kid or their first time using a weed eater, you know everyone has different gifts and different passions and that’s what I love, helping other people to find them,” said Filingim.

Filingim’s younger brother Jackson, was one of the eighth graders who participated. He said he really enjoyed the morning hours they spent at Sonny Carter Elementary, celebrating green day with the kids.

The students were also at nursing homes, and helped clean up yards and prep homes for Rebuilding Macon and Habitat for Humanity.
