Macon Man Sentenced in Bank Fraud Scheme

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Seven months after being found guilty in federal court, a Macon man is sentenced to 28 months in prison.

A news release from the United States Attorney for the Middle Georgia District says 49-year-old Thanh Quoc Hoang came up with a scheme to defraud merchants and card companies using personal checks from the Security Bank of Bibb County. Through the transactions he was able to obtain more than $200,000 in cash, goods, and services.

On August 28, 2012 Hoang was found guilty on six counts of bank fraud against American Express and Fleet Credit Card Services on August 28, 2012.

On March 28, he was sentenced to the prison turn and upon release he will spend five years under supervision. He also has to pay $25,000 in restitution.
