GOHS Launches Drive Safe Georgia Campaign

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Law enforcement agencies say they want you to enjoy Saint Patrick’s Day, but don’t rely on luck to get you home safely.

The Byron Police Department, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia State Patrol are teaming up with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to encourage drunk drivers to stay off the road.

This upcoming party weekend, is historically, one of the most dangerous for motorists. So, they’ve launched the Drive Safe, Georgia campaign.

“If you’re going to get drunk, and you’re going to get behind the wheel of a car, and you think luck’s going to get you home, then you’re a fool. You’re going to get caught, you’re going to get arrested, there’s a get a picture of you of you that’s going to get taken that you don’t want on Facebook and you’re going to end up looking like a fool, and it’s going to cost you a pot of gold,” said Harris Blackwood, Director of GOHS.

The group also debuted a new application for phones called Drive Safe, Georgia. It lists numbers for safe rides in your city. They’ve also posted a bar code for the “app” on coasters that will be distributed in bars across the state. So drinkers can scan, and instantly download it.
