Thousands Turn Out For Dublin’s Annual Pancake Supper

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – People from all over Laurens County descended upon Dublin’s annual Pancake Supper Thursday night. 

It’s just one of more than 50 events going on in the month-long St. Patrick’s Festival of 2013.

Pancakes, pancakes. pancakes.

Somewhere around 30,000 of them were served up Thursday night at Dublin Middle School.

“We love it,” says Kelley Conner, who comes every year.  “It’s always been a family tradition.  My grandma used to come, but now she’s a little bit too sick to come, but we always bring her back food.”

The Dublin Exchange Club puts on this yearly meal, and for a low cost, people get to eat breakfast–for supper.

“What makes the perfect pancake is knowing how to position the pancake first on your grill,” says Exchange Club member, Josh Crews, who was busy cooking up pancakes.  “You’ve got hot spots on the grill and you’ve got cold spots.  You’ve got to start with the cold sports first so they’ll cook more even.”

It’s the Exchange Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and all proceeds raised–more than $10,000–goes toward local scholarships and non-profit organizations.

“We enjoy the people, we enjoy the social time together with club members,” says club member, Ken Flanders.  “But most of all, we enjoy the things we can accomplish for our community with money we raise.”

And year after year, this community shows up in full force.

“We really appreciate the support of the community year after year,” says Exchange Club president, Reece Lester.  “It’s our privilege as America’s premier service club to serve this community and to put back into the community all the money that we make.”
