Bibb School Board Takes First Step Towards Naming Superintendent

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County students may not have a new superintendent by the time the school year starts in August, but tonight, board members took their first step towards replacing Dr. Romain Dallemand.

At a special called meeting, the board approved having the Georgia School Boards Association help them through a process that will cost the district a base fee of $10,000, plus pay for consultant travel and other things like advertising the position in national publications, if the board chooses to do so.

Next in the process, the board will submit to the GSBA a criteria they want candidates to meet.

The GSBA will then present completed applications to the school board, which will decide which of the candidates they want to interview.  After interviews, the school board will release its list of final candidates, and that list will be made public for 14 days.

After that window, the board can select its new superintendent.

Jim Puckett, with the GSBA, says this search will be different than others, in that the school board will be kept in the loop throughout the whole process.

“Ours is open,” says Puckett. “And the board will know that they’ve had the opportunity to determine who out there might be the next superintendent.”

Puckett says the whole process could take up to six months, but if the board works quickly, it could be done in four to five months.

The GSBA will also assist the board in selecting an interim superintendent but won’t get involved much past being a third-party source for the search and providing a list of names.

Deputy Superintendent Suzanne Griffin-Ziebart was named acting superintendent at last week’s meeting, but she’ll only be in that position for 30 days.
