Despite Owner’s Health, 2013 Race Season To Go On At Watermelon Capital Speedway

MarvinRaganCORDELE, GA – Despite battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), Watermelon Capital Speedway owner Marvin Ragan has said racing will continue on at his Cordele track in 2013 beginning with the Speedfest event to be held on January 27.

In a statement posted on the track’s Facebook page, discussed his health situation and said WCS will start regular racing season in April and run at least once a month with plans to schedule special races on open dates.

“My son, Brett, has taken a leave of absence from Roush Racing to help look after my business affairs, including managing the track,” Ragan said. “We plan to offer the track for sale but until it is sold, we will continue to race and I’m sure anyone that might purchase the track will continue with regular racing.”

Ragan, who is the uncle of NASCAR driver David Ragan, added, “I am in good spirits and will fight to the end, never giving up hope. I plan to continue to be active as long as I can and hope to see everyone around as time goes along. I hope all racing fans will support the track and make 2013 one of WCS’s best years ever.”
