Cooke Sworn in as Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Judicial Circuit’s new district attorney takes his oath of office.

David Cooke was sworn in Thursday morning at the Bibb County Courthouse by Judge S. Phillip Brown.

A large crowd was on hand for the ceremony, including several local and state elected officials. 

In one of the most heated elections in middle Georgia, Cooke beat out incumbent Republican Greg Winters for the position in last month’s general election.

The Democrat says no matter what side you chose during the election, or who you supported, justice knows no side.

“The job of the D.A. is to do justice and you don’t do justice with favor or affection to any party– there’s a reason that’s in the oath,” says Cooke.  “I’m here to do justice for everyone, whether they supported me or not, whether they supported my opponent or not.  It’s time for us all to come together and work together as a community to make us all safer.”

Cooke says he plans to keep about 85% of the current staff at the D.A.’s office.

He’ll officially take office on January 1st and says his focus will be on crimes against women and children in our community.
