Bibb County School District Teaching Teachers to Create Better Classrooms

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County school teachers are getting a lesson on how to create a better learning environment.

The Bibb County School District is conducting a county-wide work session called “Instructional Rounds.” This is the first time professional educators will observe teachers with the goal to figure out what can be done to make a better classroom.

Heritage Elementary held its first ever “Instructional Rounds” on Thursday. Officials observed teachers and based them on three criteria: 1) professional knowledge, 2) academically challenging environment, and 3) instructional strategies. The observers listed pros and things that needed to be worked on. They also came up with strategies to implement in the classrooms.

District officials say a goal of the plan is to teach the teachers so they can create a better learning atmosphere for students.

“If we don’t improve the capacity of our teaching staff and continue to focus on that, then the students will certainly be hindered in what they can accomplish,” associate superintendent Terrence Martin said.

Each school in the district will take the information collected from their session and apply it to a short and long term goal. The district will also look at the information as a whole and figure out what it can do to teach teachers how to make a better classroom.
