Point University Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Kevin Porter Resigns
WEST POINT, Georgia (Point University Sports)- Today Point University Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Kevin Porter resigned his post at the four-year liberal arts Christian university based in West Point, Ga. President Dean Collins accepted Porter’s resignation, thanking him for his work in launching the school’s football program, expanding its athletics program to 12 intercollegiate sports and developing and expanding the university’s athletics facilities.
Porter is leaving the Skyhawks, who compete at the NAIA level, to explore new career opportunities.
Collins plans to separate the athletic director and head football coach positions, and the search for both will begin immediately. Alan Wilson, assistant athletic director, will provide interim oversight to the athletics program until a new athletic director is named. Wilson’s institutional knowledge of Point University and his role assisting Porter position him well to lead in the interim.
Current Point University Defensive Line Coach and Fayetteville, Ga., resident David Rocker will serve as interim head football coach during the search for a permanent replacement. Having served as a pastor for a number of years equips Rocker to recruit the kind of student-athlete Point University seeks and to mentor players on the team. His experience as a player at Auburn University and with the NFL, along with his coaching background at Point University, have prepared him to lead the Skyhawks until a new head coach is named.
