Macon Police Department Gets New Cars
MACON, Georgia(41NBC/WMGT)-The Macon Police Department is riding in style! It received more than a dozen new cars today thanks to the local penny tax. The new cars, Ford Interceptors, are a little smaller than the previous Crown Victoria model, which was discontinued last year.
The Ford Interceptor gets about 19 miles per gallon in the city and 29 miles per gallon on the highway. Major Charles Stone said the car is just as fast as the Crown Victoria and the Dodge Charger. According to www.ford.com, the Ford Interceptor passed a 75 mile per hour rear crash test.
Since the SPLOST was passed, a total of 25 police cars have been paid for with
the penny tax.
“People can be proud of Macon and its police department, and we are making a
tangible, visible investment into public safety with this. And everybody can
be proud of these police cars that we are putting on the street and
especially the officers to who they are assigned,” said Macon Mayor Robert
Reichert.
Mayor Robert Reichert thanked the community for providing SPLOST funds for the new vehicles and told the officers he wants them to have the best available equipment when doing their jobs.
