Forsyth Police Create Old Prescription Drop Box

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Forsyth police are trying to keep prescription pills off the street–by giving you a spot to drop them off.

The department teamed up with a local pharmacy to put this drop box in front of the public safety complex, where citizens can drop their drugs, and know they’ll be safely tossed out. Chief Keith Corley says it’s part of an effort to keep prescription pills out of the hands of abusers.

“These drugs accumulate in people’s homes, and for whatever reason they pass away and need to be disposed of,” says Corley. “We’ll take the drugs year round and we’ll store them in our evidence room until the DEA comes by and gets them once or twice a year.”

Corley says some people flush pills or throw them away. With this initiative, they won’t leak into water or end up in the hands of users.
