Monroe County Man Wins Battle Over Rezoning Controversy

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Monroe County man can now start the process of building a school on his property after battling with county commissioners for three months.

Bobby Duffy wanted to rezone his residential property to agriculture so he could build a school, but he was getting a lot of push back from the county and some of his neighbors.

During Tuesday night’s county commissioners’ meeting, the board voted in his favor.

Duffy says he was disappointed that it took the county months to come to a decision, but now that he as the go ahead, he can’t wait to get started.

“Immediately, I’ve started working on my outline, calling people about blueprints,” Duffy said. “Now I’m back in sync of the time line to get things done, to be able to do certain things without interruption.”

Duffy hopes to break ground for the new school by the end of the year and open the doors to students by August 2013.
