Macon/ Bibb County Named First Age-Friendly U.S. Community.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The City of Macon and Bibb County are getting national attention this week after AARP announced the area is the first age-friendly U.S. community. Today, Macon and Bibb County joined a national network of communities that pledge to make services and neighborhoods more user-friendly for people age 50 and older. Bibb County Chairman Sam Hart and Macon Mayor Robert Reichert accepted the membership certificate for the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities at a News Conference.
AARP representatives acknowledged Macon-Bibb’s commitment and its multi-year plan to become more accessible, convenient, and user-friendly for older Americans.
“As an early leader in this movement, Macon/Bibb can serve as an example and a mentor to other communities across Georgia…across the United States and around the world,” said Edward Johns, AARP Representative.
Six other communities will be considered age-friendly by AARPincluding New York City and Portland.
