Georgia’s Unemployment Rate Drops

MACON,Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Georgia’s unemployment rate has dropped for eight straight months, and the state’s Labor Commissioner says that’s a sign more people are getting back to work. The state’s long term unemployed number also declined to just under two hundred forty thousand. Looking for a job can be time-consuming. But, for many Americans who are out of work, there is good news.

According to the Georgia Department of Labor, the unemployment rate for March was 9 percent compared to 9.8 percent in March of last year.

“I am noticing in the last two weeks…it’s kind of a surge of employment opportunities. I think the economy is picking back up. So, I’m very thankful, and I am very appreciative to whatever opportunities actually come my way,” said Bertram Tulloch, job seeker.

“Looks like we are getting more people than we are having people file claims for unemployment insurance. That is a good thing,” said Bob Thompson, Georgia Department of Labor.

The job fair at the Department of Labor was considered a mini job fair. Ten employers were at the fair looking for potential employees.
