Fired Works Exhibit In Macon For 10 Days

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The historic Round Building in Central City Park is full of pottery and clay sculptures from around the southeast, for the 7th Fired Works Exhibit.

Artists spent Friday morning setting up their displays to be sold for the 10 day show. This year’s show is boasting the biggest to date, with 60 artists from the state of Georgia, and five from around the southeast.

Buyers can find common clay items like plates, cups, and bowls. But there are plenty of not-so-common items to be found as well. One vendor is displaying a red container shaped like a devil’s head. If you want to find some unique creations, this might be just the place.

Jonathan Dye with the Macon Arts Alliance explains how pottery, is a part of Macon’s history.

“The oldest piece of stamped pottery ever found in North America was found in Macon, Georgia. So people have been making pottery here for centuries. This is just a continuation of that tradition,” Dye says.

The Fired Works Exhibit is open to the public April 14th through the 22nd.
