Monroe County deputies find drone, drugs in suspected prison drop case
Deputies said the contraband was believed to be headed to Coffee Correctional Facility in Nicholls.

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- A Jonesboro man is being held without bond after Monroe County deputies said they found a drone, marijuana, ecstasy, and other suspected prison drop-related contraband during a traffic stop Sunday night.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped an SUV around 9:27 p.m. Sunday, October 11, for a traffic violation.
Deputies said the driver, identified as Jamir Chisholm of Jonesboro, admitted to having a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle.
While deputies were searching the SUV, the sheriff’s office said Chisholm ran from the scene. He was quickly apprehended.
Drone, drugs found during search
During the search, deputies said they found an unmanned aerial vehicle, commonly known as a drone, about three pounds of marijuana, four ecstasy tablets and other contraband believed to be connected to prison drops.
The sheriff’s office said deputies believed the contraband was headed to Coffee Correctional Facility in Nicholls.
Charges filed
Chisholm is being held in the Monroe County Jail without bond.
He is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of ecstasy, obstruction of an officer and possession of tools with the intent to commit a crime.
Sheriff points to broader concern
Sheriff Brad Freeman said last week, during another arrest involving a person accused of trying to bring contraband to prisons, that the issue is becoming an epidemic within the prison system.
Freeman said this arrest makes at least five cases in the past several months where deputies stopped suspected contraband before it could be dropped at prisons.
