GBI investigating Vienna shooting that killed 2, injured 35

Investigators say Dooly County deputies were already on patrol at the neighborhood gathering when shots were fired early Sunday morning.

VIENNA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting at a neighborhood block party in Vienna that left two people dead and 35 others injured early Sunday morning.

The Dooly County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI’s assistance with the investigation.

According to the GBI, Dooly County deputies were on patrol at the block party when shots were fired from the 900 block of Pine Street at about 1:25 a.m. Sunday, October 4.

Deputies immediately responded and discovered multiple people had been shot.

Investigators said deputies found two people in the 600 block of Pine Street who were pronounced dead at the scene.

The GBI said 35 people were injured in the shooting. Victims were taken to several regional hospitals for treatment.

The two people who died will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
