Dublin High School teacher Noromo Stanley earns district Teacher of the Year honor
Stanley, who previously taught for 11 years in Cameroon, will now advance in the process for the 2028 Georgia Teacher of the Year.

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Long before Noromo Stanley became a teacher at Dublin High School, he was a student in Cameroon who understood that getting an education was not something everyone could take for granted.
“Education was a luxury,” Stanley said.

That experience helped shape a career that has now earned Stanley recognition as the 2027 Dublin City Schools District Teacher of the Year.
Stanley said he was fortunate to have access to an education growing up and felt a responsibility to help other children have the same opportunity.
“I was fortunate to be among those who had an education,” Stanley said. “It was my responsibility to see that other students, other children can have some sort of education.”
While he was still a student himself, Stanley and several friends began tutoring other children. He eventually became a teacher in 2011 and spent 11 years as an educator in Cameroon.
Stanley also pursued higher education, working toward a Ph.D. in Gender and Development from the University of Buea. His academic work has included research on family planning outcomes and household wealth in Cameroon.
In 2023, Stanley moved to the United States with his wife and three daughters and began teaching at Dublin High School. The family has since welcomed a fourth daughter.
Now in his fourth year at the school, Stanley said he did not expect to receive the district’s top teaching honor.
“The very first thing that came to my mind, I was first very surprised because I wasn’t expecting being honored as the Teacher of the Year,” Stanley said. “Then, the second thing that came to my mind was joy.”
His work at Dublin High School has extended beyond the classroom.
Stanley has helped students learn about financial literacy through the Georgia Council on Economic Education’s Stock Market Game. He also serves as head coach of the Lady Irish soccer team.
Dublin High School Principal Dr. Michael Overstreet said Stanley has become an important part of the school.
“He’s one of the better decisions I’ve made, in terms of personnel, because he’s been such a tremendous asset to Dublin High School in so many ways,” Overstreet said.
For Stanley, however, the everyday time he spends with his students remains one of the most important parts of the job.

“Every day, as teachers of Dublin City Schools, we always come to class ready and prepared to do our work,” Stanley said. “And every little moment that we, the students and myself, spend together makes it special to me.”
Interim Superintendent Marcee Pool said Stanley’s involvement in both academics and athletics reflects his commitment to students.
“Mr. Stanley embodies everything you could ask for in a great teacher,” Pool said. “His willingness to do whatever is needed for the children is evident by the programs and activities, both academic and athletic, in which he continues to engage students every day.”
Stanley’s district honor also puts him in contention for another recognition. As the 2027 Dublin City Schools Teacher of the Year, he will move forward in the process for the 2028 Georgia Teacher of the Year.
