Georgia investigation leads to arrests of Yemeni nationals in illegal THC probe

State agriculture officials say four smoke shops owned by Yemeni nationals were searched in Blackshear, Jesup, and Ludowici.

JESUP, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- An eight-month investigation into illegal THC sales in Georgia has led to the arrests of several Yemeni nationals and searches at four smoke shops owned by Yemeni nationals, according to the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

The department says officers carried out eight search warrants on September 21 at stores in Blackshear, Jesup, and Ludowici.

Investigators say all four stores involved in the operation are owned by Yemeni nationals. The department also said several Yemeni nationals were arrested, though the release did not say how many people were taken into custody, identify them, or list the charges they face.

The operation involved the Georgia Department of Agriculture and sheriff’s offices in Pierce, Wayne, and Long counties.

Investigators say the stores were selling illegal products, including marijuana falsely labeled as hemp flower and THCA products the state says are prohibited under Senate Bill 494.

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper said the state has “zero tolerance” for illegal THC sales and said enforcement efforts will continue against businesses that do not comply with state rules.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say additional information will be released as the case develops.
