Chuck Leavell to bring music, stories and ‘The Tree Man’ to Macon Saturday September 19

Music legend Chuck Leavell brings decades of stories from The Allman Brothers Band, The Rolling Stones and his life in Middle Georgia to the Piedmont Grand Opera House.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A legendary musician with deep roots in Middle Georgia is bringing his music, stories and passion for conservation to Macon this weekend.

Chuck Leavell will take the stage at the Piedmont Grand Opera House Saturday, Sept. 19, for “An Evening of Film, Songs and Stories with Chuck Leavell: The Tree Man.”

The event begins at 8 p.m. and will combine live music and storytelling from Leavell with a screening of the documentary “Chuck Leavell: The Tree Man,” which follows his journey through music, family and his work in forestry and conservation.

Leavell’s career spans more than four decades and includes performances and recordings with some of the biggest names in music, including The Allman Brothers Band, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and John Mayer.

His connection to Middle Georgia runs especially deep.

Leavell moved to Macon in 1970 and became part of the city’s influential music scene. In 1972, he joined The Allman Brothers Band and played on the group’s “Brothers and Sisters” album, which included songs such as “Ramblin’ Man” and “Jessica.”

But music is only one part of Leavell’s story.

Away from the stage, he and his wife, Rose Lane, have spent decades operating Charlane Plantation, a tree farm in Middle Georgia and a major part of Leavell’s conservation work.

That intersection between music and the natural world is at the center of “The Tree Man.”

The documentary explores Leavell’s life as a musician, husband, father and conservationist, offering a look at the different passions that have shaped his career.

For Leavell, Saturday’s event is also an opportunity to tell those stories in an intimate setting.

The Piedmont Grand Opera House says the evening will give audiences a chance to experience Leavell’s music and storytelling while also seeing the documentary that chronicles his journey.

The event is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Piedmont Grand Opera House, 651 Mulberry St. in Macon.
