Macon residents share meal, play bingo during Night to Unite activities
Residents gathered Tuesday at the Macon church as part of the county’s annual crime prevention and neighborhood outreach event.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Macon-Bibb County’s Night to Unite activities continued Tuesday at Greater Turner Tabernacle, where residents shared a meal, played bingo and spent time with neighbors as part of the annual crime prevention and neighborhood outreach effort.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office kicked off Night to Unite Monday, with events happening at locations across Macon-Bibb County Tuesday.
Pastor David Luke said the church’s participation reflects its commitment to meeting people where they are in both hardship and celebration.
“One of the things is we try to do our biblical mandate,” he said. “Any time you see Christ in the Bible, the person met Christ in crisis. Any time we meet a person for the first time, when crisis comes, so we’re there to meet them in their crisis, and also there to celebrate with their celebrations.”
Macon-Bibb Commissioner Stanley Stewart was among those in attendance and, despite losing a heated game of bingo, spoke highly of the day’s events. Stewart said he looks forward to Night to Unite each year.
