Night to Unite events planned across Macon-Bibb Tuesday

Tuesday’s neighborhood activities include cookouts, flashlight walks, crime prevention programs and visits from deputies and firefighters.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office opened its annual Night to Unite campaign Monday, ahead of neighborhood events planned across Macon-Bibb County Tuesday.

A kickoff and news conference were held Monday morning at Central Fine Arts and IB Magnet High School. Night to Unite activities are scheduled Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at locations throughout Macon-Bibb County.

The annual event promotes crime prevention, neighborhood involvement and stronger relationships between residents, law enforcement, firefighters and local government officials.

Neighborhood Watch groups and neighborhoods across the county are planning activities including crime prevention programs, cookouts, flashlight walks, neighborhood cleanups, children’s activities and visits from law enforcement and fire department personnel.

Judy Gordon, a longtime Neighborhood Watch coordinator, said residents play an important role in helping law enforcement prevent and solve crime.

“You will have law enforcement that will tell you that law enforcement does not solve crime by themselves,” she said .”They have tips from the community, they have information from the community, because we believe in: if you hear something, if you see something, say something.”

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging residents to spend Tuesday connecting with their neighbors and local first responders while taking part in crime prevention activities.
