Severe weather slammed parts of the Northeast over the weekend, bringing heavy rain, flash flooding and dangerous conditions to communities across Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.

(CNN)- Severe weather slammed parts of the Northeast over the weekend, bringing heavy rain, flash flooding and dangerous conditions to communities across Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.

Westport, Connecticut, was among the areas hit particularly hard. Videos and photos showed roads covered by water, flooding reaching properties and debris floating through the streets.

Multiple vehicles were left stranded or partially submerged.

In New Jersey, flooding also forced road closures and left vehicles stuck in high water.

Drivers became trapped by rising floodwaters in Paterson, prompting rescue operations. According to the city’s mayor, the fire department rescued more than a dozen people.

Parts of New York also experienced severe storms and flooding.

Police in Westchester County reported multiple disabled vehicles, while a local fire department rescued several people from a vehicle caught in high water.

The Northeast is one of several regions across the country dealing with the effects of recent destructive weather.

Hawaii continues to recover from Hurricane Lowell. Power outages over the past week contributed to major disruptions at an airport, where travelers faced waits of up to seven hours to get through TSA screening.

“When we had heard that there were 4,000 people at the airport, I’d never seen anything like it before,” U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda of Hawaii said.
