Two 14-year-olds charged after guns stolen from Milledgeville vehicles

Officers say they recovered multiple stolen firearms after searches near College Station Apartments and North Wilkinson Street.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Two 14-year-old boys face multiple charges after police say they entered several vehicles and stole firearms in multiple areas of Milledgeville.

According to a Facebook post from the Milledgeville Police Department, officers responded to College Station Apartments around 10 p.m. Wednesday after witnesses reported seeing two males entering vehicles.

Police say both juveniles rode away on bicycles after realizing they had been seen.

Officers found one of them riding a bicycle nearby. As officers approached, police say he threw a handgun behind a dumpster. Officers took him into custody and recovered the firearm.

Police then received a report of another person matching the second suspect’s description running from the apartment complex. Officers, K-9 Diesel and the department’s drone unit searched the area.

Officers found the second juvenile near North Wilkinson Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Police say he initially cooperated but then ran east on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Officers took him into custody after a short foot chase. Police also released drone video from the search.

Investigators believe the juveniles entered several vehicles in the Carrington Woods and Tate Terrace areas before arriving at College Station Apartments.

Police say multiple firearms were stolen from vehicles. Officers recovered several of them behind College Station Apartments and near North Wilkinson Street.

Both juveniles were taken to the Macon Regional Youth Detention Center. They face multiple charges:

Entering auto
Possession of a handgun by a person under 18
Possession of a handgun during the commission of a crime
Participation in criminal street gang activity
Obstruction
Tampering with evidence

Detectives are continuing to receive reports, and police say the juveniles could face additional charges.

Anyone in the College Station, Carrington Woods, Tate Terrace or surrounding areas who believes someone entered their vehicle is asked to call the Milledgeville Police Department at (478) 414-4090.

Police are also reminding drivers to lock their vehicles and remove firearms, valuables and other important property whenever possible.
