Cam’s Plants sees surge in support after summer slowdown

Cam’s Plants struggled to attract foot traffic during the summer before a Facebook post brought an unexpected wave of customers.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Cam’s Plants is asking the Macon community for support after the local small business saw a slowdown during the summer.

The business opened its store on Ingleside Avenue in January after starting out online last October.

Cam’s Plants specializes in indoor tropical houseplants, offering everything from beginner-friendly plants to hard-to-find varieties.

Owner Camden Cirami says the business had a strong opening, but things slowed down once the summer months arrived.

“Our opening and everything like that was really good and then it just kind of died down over the summer,” Cirami said.

Cirami says the summer heat has made it harder to bring foot traffic to businesses along Ingleside Avenue.

“It’s hard to get the foot traffic out here,” Cirami said. “It’s hot, nobody wants to walk around, so it’s just been a struggle getting the word out to people that don’t know we exist over here.”

Cirami recently turned to social media to ask the community for additional support.

The response was unexpected.

“It was just very unexpected,” Cirami said. “We’ve been getting very low traction on Facebook so I posted it as kind of screaming into the void. It felt like we were heard, and it was nice.”

Cirami says the shop nearly sold out of plants after the post and had to place another order.
