Woman found dead in vacant Laurens County home identified

55-year-old Melanie Douglas was found Monday evening at a vacant home on Jay Bird Springs Road. Law enforcement hasn't released how she died.

LAURENS COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Law enforcement has identified a woman found dead inside a vacant Laurens County home Monday night.

Laurens County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jeremy Reese said the woman was 55-year-old Melanie Douglas. He said her family has been notified.

Reese says deputies were dispatched to the home on Jay Bird Springs Road at 6:44 p.m. The road is near the Laurens-Dodge county line.

The circumstances surrounding Douglas’ death remain under investigation. The sheriff’s office has not released information about how she died.

Reese says investigators have no reason to believe there is a threat to the public.
