Macon County Schools cancel student classes Friday after water main break

Macon County Elementary School is without water and under a boil water advisory. Teachers will report from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

OGLETHORPE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Macon County School System has canceled classes for students Friday after a water main break left parts of Oglethorpe with low water pressure or no water.

According to a notice from Superintendent Johnathan B. Roberts Jr. Thursday night, Macon County Elementary School is without water and a boil water advisory has been issued.

The district says it needs to allow enough time for the water to be cleared for safe use throughout the school building.

Teachers will report for professional development from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and meet in the Macon County Middle/High School cafeteria.

The district says it will continue monitoring the situation and announce any additional changes affecting school operations.

Earlier Thursday, the City of Oglethorpe said crews were working to repair the break and estimated water service would be restored around midnight.
