Westfield Hornets hoping to build on last season’s playoff run

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Westfield football team made it to the second round of the playoffs last season, and the Hornets are hoping for an even deeper postseason run in 2026.

Despite having just six seniors on this year’s squad, Head Coach Chad Campbell likes the progress this group has made over the last few months. Strong leadership is what led this Hornets team to an 8-4 record last year, and although the senior class is small this time around, it’s a core group of players whop play on both sides of the ball, and are expected to play a key role in this squad’s success as the season unfolds.

“Our expectations start in January of being a championship caliber football team,” Campbell said.

“I think we’re way more together than we were last season,” Senior tackle Sammy McGehee said. “This year we started conditioning during Summer practice. We’re a lot more in shape and we’re ready to go. We have to do a better job of leading and getting the group together, and just getting ready to go to war on Friday nights.”

“I think we’re in a really good spot, and I think we’ve bonded together very well,” Senior receiver and safety Win Hoots added. “We’re just looking to grow every week, and try to stay healthy, and try to make it all the way to that last week, and try to put a ring on our finger.”

The Hornets kick off the regular season on their home field against Brookstone on Aug. 14.
