Son charged after shooting mother of Chiefs coach Eric Bieniemy

The son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been arrested after authorities say he shot his mother at a home in Ashburn, Virginia.

(NBC)- The son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been arrested after authorities say he shot his mother at a home in Ashburn, Virginia.

Doorbell camera video captured deputies rushing toward the home Sunday evening and later carrying Mia Bieniemy outside following the shooting.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office says Mia called 911 herself. Deputies responded to the home around 7:30 p.m.

According to a criminal complaint, Mia’s son allegedly shot her with a .22-caliber gun, striking her in the left forearm and shoulder.

Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said investigators determined that Mia had been shot more than once and identified her son, Elijah Bieniemy, as the suspect.

The 27-year-old was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. He is being held without bond.

Eric Bieniemy traveled from the Chiefs’ training camp in Missouri to help care for his wife.

The team says Mia is in stable condition.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid described her as “a saint” and “one of God’s good blessings.”

Law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
