Dive team says victim, vehicle recovered from Lake Sinclair in Hancock County

The victim’s identity and condition have not been released, and no information has been provided about how the vehicle entered the lake.

HANCOCK COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Responders located a victim and a submerged vehicle in Lake Sinclair off Highway 16 in Hancock County Saturday morning.

The Baldwin County Public Safety Dive Team says the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office requested its assistance around 7:18 a.m. after receiving a report of a possible submerged vehicle.

Dive team members arrived around 8 a.m. and began assisting with the search. Responders located the victim shortly after 9 a.m. and found the vehicle around 9:20 a.m.

The dive team then assisted with the recovery operation.

The victim’s identity and condition have not been released. Information about the vehicle or how it entered the lake was also not provided.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones affected by this tragic incident,” a dive team Facebook post said. “We hope the recovery efforts provide a measure of closure during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Baldwin County Public Safety Dive Team and Hancock County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
