Rain odds climb slightly Thursday afternoon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A few more storms are expected Thursday afternoon and evening as conditions remain hot and humid.

It’s been another hot afternoon across Middle Georgia with a few storms out there helping a limited number of locations get a small break from the heat. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the southeastern half of the region until 8 PM tonight. It will be another muggy night under mostly clear skies heading into Thursday. Temperatures will valley in the low to mid 70s as the wind remains out of the southwest at 5-10 mph.

Another hot day is likely Thursday as temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 90s across the region. Heat indexes win largely eclipse 100 degrees. The wind will be a bit breezy from the west-southwest at 5-15 mph. Gusts will likely range from 15-20 mph. Luckily more storms are likely through the afternoon and evening with just under half the region likely to see rain. The most intense storms may bring small hail or a couple of strong wind gusts.

A couple of storms may linger early however rain should all taper off by midnight. The overnight hours will be partly cloudy with temperatures again dropping into the low to mid 70s by sunrise Friday morning. The wind will flow from the southwest around 5 mph and some patchy fog is likely heading into Friday morning as well.

Rain chances will again be around 40-50% Friday before climbing more this coming weekend. The rise in rain odds should also come with a drop in temperatures with highs likely returning to the 80s by Sunday. Below average conditions should last into the first half of next week.
