UPDATE: Residents from Centerville and surrounding cities gathered at Center Park Friday to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with music, food, snow cones and a splash pad to beat the summer heat.

Vendors and community members turned out for the festivities ahead of July 4. Among them was DeRon Rogers, owner of Pinky’s Shaved Ice, who said patriotism runs deep in her household.

“I have a son that’s in the Navy, so we’re very patriotic in our house,” she said. “I think unless you travel and see how other countries operate, you truly can’t embrace how fortunate we are in the states.”

Friday’s celebration ended with a fireworks show.
