Trump administration praises progress in Iran talks as negotiations continue

(NBC)- The Trump administration is highlighting progress in ongoing negotiations with Iran as Vice President JD Vance returns from talks and Secretary of State Marco Rubio begins meetings with key Gulf allies.
Vance expressed optimism about the discussions after returning from the latest round of negotiations.
“I feel great about the progress that we made,” Vance said.
Meanwhile, Rubio is traveling to the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain to discuss the proposed framework with regional partners. All three countries were targeted during the recent conflict and remain cautious about any concessions made to Iran.
As part of the negotiations, the Trump administration has temporarily lifted certain oil sanctions, allowing Iran to sell oil and receive payment in U.S. dollars during a 60-day negotiation period.
President Donald Trump said the possibility of military action remains on the table if Iran fails to comply with any agreement.
“If Iran doesn’t live up to their agreement, or if they’re not behaving, I will do what I have to do,” Trump said.
The president also defended a proposal to unfreeze some Iranian assets, saying the funds would be restricted to food purchases from American farmers.
The White House points to several areas of progress, including efforts to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to commercial shipping and agreements allowing nuclear inspectors access to Iran.
“To make sure they can never have a nuclear weapon,” Vance said of the inspections.
However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry disputed that claim, saying Tehran has made no new commitments regarding nuclear inspections beyond existing United Nations procedures.
The administration also says progress has been made in reducing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon through new diplomatic channels.
Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks as both sides work toward a broader agreement.
