Man killed in crash on Bass Road in Macon
Bibb deputies investigate fatal crash near Bass Road and Westchester Drive

UPDATE: Bibb County deputies identified the man killed in a crash Monday morning as Robert Thomas Jackson.
ORIGINAL STORY:
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that happened Monday morning on Bass Road near Westchester Drive.
Deputies said the crash was reported to the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center at about 10:05 a.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, the crash involved a Peterbilt 348 commercial vehicle and a Chevrolet GMT 3500 utility truck.
Investigators said a red sedan was stopped while traveling west on Bass Road and preparing to turn left onto Westchester Drive. The utility truck was also traveling west and approaching the sedan.
Deputies said the driver of the utility truck merged into oncoming eastbound traffic to avoid hitting the sedan. The utility truck then collided with the commercial vehicle, which was traveling east.
The impact caused the utility truck to overturn.
The 36-year-old man driving the utility truck died from his injuries at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputy Coroner Luann Stone pronounced him dead. His name has not been released because his next of kin has not been notified.
The 62-year-old driver of the Peterbilt was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to a local medical facility. Medical staff listed him in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
