Macon ceremony honors enslaved ancestors ahead of Juneteenth
Macon Black Culture President Sheknita Smith say this celebration is not only to honor the ancestors, but to also educate the children on the past.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Black Culture organization honored enslaved ancestors and celebrated Black history Friday with a Juneteenth wreath-laying ceremony at Rosa Parks Square.
The ceremony honored enslaved ancestors, commemorated emancipation and celebrated Black culture and history.
Macon Black Culture President Sheknita Smith says this celebration is not only to honor the ancestors, but also to educate children on the past.
“Juneteenth calls us to remember,” he said. “Remember the sacrifices, struggles, and faith of a people who have endured what should have broken them, yet they continue to build families, communities, churches, businesses and legacy.”
Smith says they will continue to educate the youth on their history.
