CFCA completes three-peat as Lancers win 3rd straight state title

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — It was a dominant effort on Wednesday afternoon as the Central Fellowship Christian Academy girls soccer team captured its third straight state championship with a 5-0 win over Westminster Christian at Stratford Academy.

Lois Tanner set the tone for the Lancers as the junior completed a hat-trick before the halftime whistle was blown. CFCA went into the break with a three-goal lead, and the Lancers never looked back. Senior Morgan Riley chipped in with a goal as she drilled a penalty kick in the second half, putting her squad up by four. Tanner added to CFCA’s lead with her fourth goal of the afternoon, putting the finishing touches on a shutout victory over the Lions.

“I’m just so proud of how great we did, and just how much success we’ve had this season,” Tanner said. “We finished here, got it done, and now we’ve got a three-peat.”

“Hard work pays off. It’s really exciting,” Head Coach Teddy Tanner said.  “It says a lot about our program, and a lot about our girls.”

“Even though we were the last state champions, we still weren’t the champions in the beginning [of the season],” senior Morgan Riley added. “I just think, even with it being 3-0 at the half, just coming in and finishing the goal until the buzzer was at zero, that was the whole thing.”
