(NBC)- President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington today as questions continue surrounding his health and the ongoing war with Iran.
Trump turns 80 next month and has frequently been seen with bruising on the back of his right hand. The president has also occasionally appeared drowsy during meetings.
Still, Trump insisted earlier this year that he remains in strong physical and mental condition.
“I feel great,” Trump told NBC News in a February interview. “Physically and mentally I feel like I did 50 years ago.”
The medical visit comes one day after the president honored America’s war dead, including 13 service members killed during the Iran war.
“These incredible men and women gave their lives to ensure that the world’s number one state sponsor of terror will never have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said.
Meanwhile, the United States carried out additional strikes in southern Iran overnight even as negotiations to end the conflict continue.
Trump posted that talks are “proceeding nicely” and said the outcome would be “a great deal for all, or no deal at all.”
According to a senior administration official, the president’s proposal would require the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and begin a 60-day negotiating period focused on Iran’s nuclear program and its enriched uranium.
Iran, however, continues pushing to maintain control over traffic through the Strait indefinitely.
“The straits need to be open unimpeded, without tolls, and obviously that needs to happen immediately,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.
Iran also warned in a new statement that it would “respond decisively to any violation of the ceasefire.”
Lawmakers from both parties say they are eager to see an agreement reached, even temporarily.
