FPD Baseball gearing up for state semis this Friday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The FPD baseball team has reached the state championship series in back-to-back seasons, and the Vikings are hoping the third time is the charm in 2026. In order for the boys to punch their ticket to the state final for a third straight season, FPD needs to get past Athens Christian this Friday afternoon in the state semifinals.

“Nothing would be better, obviously, than to try and wrap it up for this group of seniors with something really special at the end,” head baseball coach Greg Moore said. “We’ve been together a long time, and really enjoy playing the game of baseball.”

“We have a very old team, and we’ve been playing together for God knows how long,” senior shortstop Keon Johnson said. “We’re just excited to get the opportunity to hopefully get back there, and we’re just looking to take care of business Friday.”

“It’s been our goal since we were freshmen to make it to the state championship, and we did both two years ago [and last year],” senior second baseman Brady McHugh added. “This year we really have a chip on our shoulder, and really want to win.”

The Vikings will play host to Athens Christian in a best-of-three series starting Friday afternoon at 5 p.m.
