Tech Report: Tech companies expand AI, robotaxi and space technology projects
Google is reportedly in talks with SpaceX about launching data centers into space.

(LILAMAX)- Major technology companies are continuing to expand into new frontiers, from space-based data centers to artificial intelligence systems designed to detect potholes and road hazards.
According to Bloomberg, Google is reportedly in talks with SpaceX about launching data centers into space. Google has previously discussed partnerships with other launch providers as part of what it calls “Project Suncatcher,” an initiative focused on testing machine learning capabilities in space through prototype satellites.
Meanwhile, Amazon is expanding its fastest delivery service yet across the United States. The new service, called Amazon Now, promises delivery in about 30 minutes for thousands of products, including groceries, electronics and household essentials. The service is already widely available in cities including Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Philadelphia and Seattle, with expansion underway in additional markets such as Austin, Houston, Orlando, Phoenix and Denver.
At the same time, Waymo is recalling approximately 3,800 robotaxis after identifying a software issue that could allow vehicles to drive too quickly through flooded roadways. The company notified federal regulators following an incident in San Antonio involving an unoccupied vehicle. Artificial intelligence is also being used to address infrastructure problems on city streets. Technology company Samsara says it has trained its own AI system using data collected from millions of cameras installed in commercial trucks.
The system can reportedly identify potholes, monitor road deterioration and detect issues such as graffiti and hanging power lines that could create safety concerns for drivers and communities.
