MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger responded Tuesday to criticism from the campaign of Lt. Governor Burt Jones over a campaign advertisement focused on election security in Georgia.

The Jones campaign argued the advertisement falsely claims Raffensperger stopped President Joe Biden and Stacey Abrams from “rigging Georgia’s elections” and demanded television stations remove the ad from broadcast rotation.

In a statement, the Jones campaign called the ad “false and misleading” and accused Raffensperger of attempting to “rewrite his dismal eight-year record.”

Raffensperger pushed back against those claims during his appearance in Macon.

“Well, I’m glad that someone brought that up because guess what, Fox News says we run the best elections that are the most secure election in the entire country,” Raffensperger said. “Heritage Foundation, which is hard right, said that we were number one, they ranked us number one in 2021.”

Raffensperger also defended Georgia’s election security measures, including voter identification requirements and citizenship verification efforts.

“We have photo ID for all forms of voting,” Raffensperger said. “I’m the first Secretary of State in America to ever do a citizenship verification to make sure that only American citizens were voting.”

He also referenced recent polling he says shows strong voter confidence in Georgia elections.

“At the end of the day, I’ll push back because I’ll push back with the facts,” Raffensperger said.

The dispute comes as Georgia’s Republican gubernatorial primary campaign continues to intensify ahead of the 2026 election cycle.
