MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb community gathered Friday morning at Public Safety Memorial Park to honor police officers, sheriff’s deputies, and firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.

During the ceremony, the names of fallen first responders were read aloud while members of the honor guard placed roses at the base of the memorial.

The event also included prayers, musical performances, a bagpipe tribute, and a flyover from the Georgia State Patrol.

Shane Edwards said the ceremony is an important reminder of the sacrifices made by those who served the community.

“You have to remember that all the names on these walls sacrificed every day they unfortunately lost their lives in the line of duty while serving and protecting our community so today it’s up to us as leaders as the sheriff, fire chief, the mayor, and our commissioners, county officials to remember all these individuals who sacrificed and serve our community protecting others,” Edwards said.
