MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Community and ministry leaders gathered in downtown Macon Thursday for the National Day of Prayer, focusing prayers on government, families, education and other key areas of influence in society.

Organizers said the event centered around seven major areas of influence in the community, often referred to as the “seven centers of influence” or “seven mountains.”

Joshua Hale, executive director of Hope for the Heart of Georgia, said the Macon gathering aligned with prayer events taking place across the country.

“There’s seven centers of influence, seven areas in our community, such as government, the church, family, business, education, etc., that have been established called the seven Mountain but the national Day of prayer of task force has adopted the seven centers of influence to pray for today so we’re coming in alignment with a national directive a nationwide deal where people all over the country are praying for the same seven areas,” Hale said.

Community leaders, pastors and residents joined together in prayer during the service.

A separate National Day of Prayer event was also scheduled Thursday at Warner Robins City Hall Council Chambers.
